Unemployed can seek help

As of the week of March 21, the Alabama Department of Labor reported 20 individuals claiming unemployment amid the pandemic.

Throughout the state

Between the week of March 15 – March 21, 2020, the ADL recieved 10,982 initial claims in the state.

According to Communications Director Tara Hutchidson, the majority of claims filed were from employees in the Accommodation and Food Services industry (2,880), followed by INA (unclassified) (1,477), and Health Care and Social Assistance (1,070).

Jefferson County had largest number of claims with 2,167.

Angie Kelley, Supervisor of the Alabama Career Center in Brewton shared ways to apply for unemployement.

She said that the ADL has two convenient ways to file a new claim or reopen an existing claim for Unemployment Compensation Benefits.  You may file a claim through the Internet or by calling a toll free telephone number at 1-888-234-5382.

Information will always be updated on the Alabama Department of Labor’s website and Facebook page, as well as the Brewton Career Center’s Facebook page. The Brewton Career Center is currently closed to walk-in traffic, but we are working and accessible via telephone and email,” said Kelley.
