Teacher Maegan Salter surprised her students last week with a special visit. Hoping to encourage all 18 of her first grade students, Salter decided to place a sign in each of the students’ yards. “I got the idea from Instagram from another teacher, but I wanted to make mine a little more personal,” said Salter.

Accompanied by her sister, Mallory Stanley, and Teacher Assistant Melanie Rowland, Salter went from house to house, visiting her class last Wed. “I did see maybe about half of them,” said Salter.

Greeting each one with a sign made especially for them, the students were so excited for the visit. “They were surprised that my aide and I were there. They really liked them,” said Salter.

Salter did thank Melanie McGougin at Jus Do for the signs. Each sign read, “One of Mrs. Salter’s 1st Grade Super Stars Lives Here #FES1stGrade.”

Keeping in touch throughout the school closure this was not the first time Salter and Rowland had made a visit. “My aide and I had made home visits on the week of spring break. This was our second time coming to visit,” said Salter.

The response from the students was great! “One mom said that they would not stop going to the window to look at the sign,” she shared.

Flooding her facebook page after the event, Salter had many parents post pictures and comments on her page. “We are so blessed! Jonah came outside to a special surprise. Mrs. Salter and Mrs. Melanie came by and left him a sign. We are beyond proud to show this off,” said Flomaton Elemtary School parent Jennifer Haskew.

Speaking highly of her sister and witnessing the event first hand, Mallory Stanley shared, “They let me ride along as they put out signs in the kid’s yards today for Maegan’s students. To see their smiling little faces and how happy they were was such a great thing to watch. It just melted my heart. These ladies really do love their kids!”

Salter serves as a first grade teacher at Flomaton Elementary School.
