“It’s been pretty steady,” said Sheilla Shipp inside the Pic-N-Save as a customer stopped to ask her a question.  Trying to locate an item, the customer is just one of many that Shipp encounters everyday especially during the bustling store amid the pandemic.

Shipp serves as the manager of the store and in the past weeks has noticed business is not as usual.

“It has been a limited order each week because the ware house is still out of items,” said Shipp. From fresh produce to canned soup, Shipp says it has been difficult to keep some items on the shelf. “Canned vegetables— well just about everything is what we have had a hard time getting,” said Shipp.

Despite the difficulty in ordering, Shipp reported no specific shortages of any kind at the local grocery store. As far as how long this will last? Shipp hopes to get a small reprieve by the end of May or beginning of June.

Currently, the store is working to protect employees and customers. “The employees can wear masks, gloves, but it is up to them. We have the sneeze guards up. We try to make people stay 6ft. apart. We have stickers on the floor to let them know about the 6 ft.,” she explained.

One good thing she did report was how appreciated the entire staff feels at the store. “People tell us that they appreciate us being here and working as hard as we are. We appreciate them coming in to shop and look forward to them being back.”

Pic-N-Save is located at 2135 Douglas Ave. in Brewton.
