The 40th annual Alabama Blueberry Festival has been canceled.

“With the social distancing and limited number of people you can have in a group, we didn’t see how we could do it and do it right,” said Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Judy Crane.

The festival normally occurs the second Sat. of June every year. At the event, many enjoy original arts and crafts, a car show, obstacle courses, children’s areas, live entertainment, a food court, and fresh blueberries!

The difficult decision came Thurs. April 30. “It was not an easy decision to make.  But we feel it’s the right decision,” said Crane. This year would have marked the 40th year of the festival. The celebration is canceled for this year, but the plan is to host another event in 2021.

The official statement from the Alabama Blueberry Festival Facebook page is printed below:

After much discussion and looking at the guidelines with “social distancing” and limiting the number of people in groups, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Blueberry Festival. It is a decision we did not want to make, but felt it is the right decision. If you have applied for a vendor space you will be receiving a refund in the near future. We may not be able to celebrate our “40th” festival this year, but we will work hard to make 2021 bigger and better! Thank you for understanding and please stay safe!
