Gov. Kay Ivey did not exclude furniture stores in the stay at home order issued April 3.
Like other stores across the state, Hainje’s was one of many forced to close after the announcement came in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.
“April 3 was our last day,” said Brewton Hainje’s Owner Kyle Edwards.
For over 100 years, Hainje’s furniture store has served the Brewton community. “It actually started in Brewton. I think it has been here for 106 years,” shared Edwards.
According to the website, Hainje’s, Inc. was started in 1914 by John A. Hainje. Currently, Hainje’s is 100% employee owned with 4 full-line locations taking care of customers’ furniture needs across the region. The store offers everything from living room, bedroom, bedding, appliances, TV’s and flooring. “We have 4 locations— Greenville, Monroeville, Atmore, and the Brewton location,” said Edwards.
After the order was issued, the store entered a realm of uncertainties. “It was up in the air, at first it was going to be the 18th (of April) and then it changed to May 1,” explained Edwards.
Finally able to reopen Fri., Edwards was all smiles as he welcomed the community back to the store. “We are very glad to be back at work,” said Edwards.
