EAST BREWTON, ALA.
Lovelace Parker, 91, a resident of East Brewton, passed away Thursday, Apr. 30, 2020, at his residence.
Mr. Parker was a native and lifelong resident of Escambia County, Alabama.
He was a 1946 graduate of W.S. Neal High School.
In 1966, he opened Big Bear Supermarket, in East Brewton, later known as Parker’s Super Foods. He operated the business for over 35 years.
In 1964, he began his political career when he became a member of the East Brewton City Council. He served on the council from 1964 until 1972. He was elected Mayor of East Brewton in 1980. He served two terms from 1980 until 1988. In 1988, he was elected to the Escambia County Commission where he served until 1996.
Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Ashton Parker; son, Terry Ashton Parker; brothers, Seals Parker, W.C. Parker & Billie H. Parker, all of East Brewton; sisters, Brooks Overstreet, Tallie Bethea, Jean Kirkland, Bonnie Robinson, and Kate Parker, all of East Brewton.
He is survived by his wife, Lynetta M. Parker of East Brewton, son, Michael (Virginia) Parker of East Brewton, daughter, Jan Parker (John) Kinard of Daphne; daughter-in-law Susan Parker of Brewton, step-sons, Hal (Janet) Whitman of Brewton and Allen Whitman of Brewton; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Parker were held at 2PM on Monday, May 4, 2020, at Fort Crawford Cemetery in East Brewton, with Rev. George Weaver officiating under the direction of Williams Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton.
Pallbearers were, Bill Henderson, Jo Jo Hoomes, Tommy Thompson, James Ward, all of Brewton, Daniel Fuqua and Wes Sessions of East Brewton, Dennis Fuqua of Flomaton, and Keith Megginson of Jay, Florida.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Waterfront Rescue Mission, Pensacola, Florida.
