A 3% salary adjustment increase was approved during Monday’s Escambia County Board of Education meeting.
Following a workshop, the meeting concluded with the pay increase.
“I want to tell you I appreciate your input and the way you brought everything to the table,” said Superintendent John Knott.
In old business, the 2020-2021 salary schedule was approved with appropriate adjustments.
In new business, the board voted and approved the 3% salary adjustment increase for school administrators. This includes principals, assistant principals and attendance administrators.
The adjustment was made to facilitate retention and recruitment of these positions.
Pleased with the entirety of the process, Board Member Danny Benjamin said he’s thankful the BOE has the staff to answer needed questions.
Benjamin said Chief School Financial Officer Julie Madden worked hard to ensure the best outcome.
“I think you have thoroughly investigated this percentage raise for these personnel for this purpose and I want to say thank you for the professionalism that you bring to the table to answer any questions we may have regarding this item. Thank you so much,” he added.
During the personnel report, a few actions were approved. First, the board accepted Scotty Benton’s leave of absence as a teacher aide at Escambia County Middle School, effective Aug. 3, 2020 through Dec. 31, 2020.
The board then approved off contract personnel to work a maximum of 10 days during July 2020 to facilitate the planning for the 2020-2021 school reopening.
The following approved are as follows:
• Cheryl Jones, Attendance Administrator, Central Offices
• Stephanie Alaniz, Lead Nurse, Escambi County High School
• Connie Reeves, Instructional Technology Resource Teacher, Atmore Central Office
The next board meeting is scheduled for July 15 in the board meeting room at Trustmark Bank. The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. and Superintendent Knott is expected to release a draft copy of the Escambia County School System plan for reopening to the board.
