Currently, sports are a go for the fall season.
Grazing the subject during the Escambia County Board of Education meeting, Superintendent John Knott said that fall sports will resume at this time.
“Right now, the Alabama High School Athletic Association has stated and outlined that we’re going to continue with our athletic programs,” said Knott.
Many concerns surround the issue, but currently there are no plans to not resume the season.
“What we do as far as how we let the number of people in how we proceed with our concession stands. We are going to have to be very careful about how we lay out those plans,” said Knott.
With the current rise in cases across Escambia County, Knott shared that sports would continue, but with stricter health guidelines.
“Like right now, one of the things we are looking at, I will just give you an example is If it
is at the level that it is at right now we’ll probably have to go to 50 percent capacity not allowing any more than that. Do social distancing in groups and seating, kind of like we did at graduation and some things like that.”
The bottom line is the safety of students, he said.
“It is definitely not going to be our normal year, but whatever we do we have to keep in mind. We have to put in place whatever’s going to be providing the best safety for our kids and our staff,” he said.
