A Brewton couple is behind bars after being charged on child sex abuse charges, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Heath Jackson said Tammy M. Wells, 45, and Roy T. Lampley, 49, both of Brewton, have been charged with sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old and willful torture and abuse of a child less than 12 years old. Wells was arrested on July 1, and Lampley was arrested on July 2.
Wells and Lampley are still in the Escambia County Detention Center under $150,000 and $250,000 bonds, respectively.
Jackson said the investigation began by the Escambia County Department of Human Resources (DHR).
“The DHR brought it to the sheriff’s office to do an investigation of accusations about Tammy Wells and Ron Lampley,” Jackson said. “There were multiple accusations in multiple jurisdictions, Escambia County (Ala.) being one. The proper authorities have been notified about the others.”
Jackson said the other jurisdictions included Escambia County, Fla. and Smyrna, Tenn.
Jackson said the accusations led to the present charges for both.
“Wells’ charges came to light for knowing about the situation, and not reporting it or doing anything to get her daughter help,” the sheriff said.
Jackson said the abuse occurred between 2016 and 2020, or approximately over a four-year period.
