Castleberry man dies from gunshot wound
A Castleberry man died from gunshot wounds he sustained while allegedly breaking into a residence on James Mill Road in Conecuh County, according to the Conecuh County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigator Justin Dees said Blake S. Addison, 24, of Castleberry died from gunshot wounds by a homeowner during a home invasion on Aug. 15.
Dees said Addison was transported by his uncle, Charles Addison, to the area in Escambia County, where Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies found him there.
“Around 1 p.m. on Aug. 15, we received a 911 call from a homeowner,” Dees said, adding that the homeowner’s name is being withheld to protect his identity. “Officers were dispatched to a home invasion. The homeowner stated he might have shot someone who was breaking into the house. Upon the deputies arrival, they made contact with the owner, who was armed with a firearm. They noticed the side door open and a lot of blood was located right there near the door on the outside.”
Dees said the homeowner said Addison and his uncle, Charles, were trying to break into his house for an unkown reason.
“One was at the front and the other was at the side door,” Dees said. “As everything was playing out, Blake Addison forced entry into the residence through side door and came at the homeowner with a weapon. The homeowner stated that he did open fire on the subject. He shot multiple times.”
Dees said because of the multiple shots by the homeowner, Blake Addison was struck.
Dees said Charles Addison has been charged with burglary II pending an investigation and grand jury.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office aided in the investigation by processing the scene where Blake Addison was found.
“Sheriff (Randy) Brock and the Conecuh County Sheriff’s Office wish to thank Sheriff Heath Jackona and Escambia County Sheriff’s Office for assiting,” Dees said.
