Summer concerts have just been a dream for those in the Brewton are, but that dream will become a reality this weekend with a drive in concert at Market Park in downtown Brewton.

Connie Baggett, director of program management for the City of Brewton, said plans are in place to provide live music with several performers Saturday evening.

“We are trying something new,” Baggett said. “We wanted to see if we could do concerts this way. This could be the backdrop for drive-in movies, which we hope to roll out soon.”

The drive in concert will kick off at 6 p.m. Saturday with spectators parked in the west parking lot at the park, Baggett said.

“We are asking people to remain in their cars for this concert,” Baggett said. “We will have amped music playing. People can roll down their windows to listen, or they can listen on their radio since we will be broadcasting on a low frequency FM station. If they want to pull their trucks in and sit in the back, that’s fine, too.”

Baggett said spectators will be able to enjoy the evening, but keeping their distance from others will be necessary.

“We are discouraging mingling for this event,” Baggett said. “There will be no standing at the stage area during the show. We ask that everyone stay with their own family group at their vehicles.”

Performers will be musicians and songwriters from around the region, Baggett said. Scheduled performers are Hope Cassity, Wyatt Edmonson, Wayward Jones, Social Tofu, The Little Things and Xaris Waltman.

The event will also be available through live streaming on the Brewton Reborn Facebook page.
