In the early morning hours Sunday, a shooting incident left one person dead and two others injured. None of the victims were residents of Brewton, according to police reports.

According to Brewton Police Public Information Officer Heath Madison, the incident stemmed from an argument by the parties involved at Whataburger’s parking lot and continued down Douglas Avenue.

“We had an officer in the vicinity at about 3 a.m. who saw a crowd gathering and went to disperse them,” Madison said. “The parties involved left the area at that time.”

Madison said the two vehicles involved in the incident were traveling south on Douglas Avenue when the shooting took place near O’Reily’s Auto Parts.

“We received calls from neighbors in the area that shots had been fired,” Madison said. “As our officer responded to the scene, those involved had already left the area.”

Ta’Nea Renee Gordon, 18, of Hayneville was pronounced dead at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital. The deceased was killed by a single gun-shot to her head, Madison said.

“When we received the call that the victim was transported to the hospital in the vehicle she was in, our officer responded,” Madison said. “It was at that time that she was pronounced deceased and information concerning two other injuries was reported.”

A second victim, who received non-life threatening injuries from gun fire, is currently being treated at D.W. McMillan Hospital. A third victim was treated and released for minor injuries as a result of the incident, Madison said.

“This is an on-going investigation,” Madison said. “We still have people to interview in regard to the argument and the shooting. We do expect other arrests to be made as we continue this investigation.”
