Clarence Washington “Bill” Walker

Brewton

Mr. Clarence Washington “Bill” Walker, 78, of Douglas Avenue in Brewton, passed away Monday morning, September 14, 2020 at his residence. 

Mr. Walker was a native of Woodville, Miss., and a former resident of Pearl, Miss., before moving to the Brewton area 11 years ago.  He was a self-employed landscaper and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brewton. He was a great father, avid deer hunter and sportsman, studied history, was a volunteer in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.  Mr. Walker loved to take walks and talk.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Walker of Brewton; step-daughters, Dena (John) Easterling of Brewton, Julia Ann Morris of Luther Okla.: sisters, Kathleen Pittman and Pearl Carter; grandsons, Jonathan, Adam, Andrew, Troy II, Alexander, Logan, Austin and Taylor.
Memorial services for Mr. Clarence Washington “Bill” Walker will be announced at a later date and time with Craver’s Funeral Home in charge of arranemtns.

Shannon Dewayne Partin

Castleberry

Mr. Shannon Dewayne Partin, 46, of County Road 6 in Castleberry, passed away Sunday morning September 13, 2020 at his residence. 

Mr. Partin was a native of Monroeville and a lifelong resident of Castleberry and was of the Pentecostal faith. He loved to hunt and fish and more importantly, loved his wife, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his mother, Judy Hobbs Partin of Castleberry; wife, Jessica Lassiter Partin of Castleberry; one son, Jonathan (Katlynn) Partin of East Brewton; two daughters, Kayla (David Gonzalez) Partin of Range and Winter Partin of Castleberry; one brother, Dennis (Tracey) Partin of Castleberry; one sister, Margaret Partin of Evergreen; and five Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Partin (2010).

Visitation was  held Sunday, September 20, 2020 from  1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time at The Victory Christian Center Church, Highway 31 North in Brewton.

Funeral services were scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at The Victory Christian Church with Brother Andy Peavy officiating.  Interment followed in Buffington Cemetery in Castleberry.

Pallbearers were David Gonzalez, Trent Pettis, Brandon Burch, James Emmons, Brian Burch and J.R. Burch.

Marvin Louis Henry

Castleberry

Mr. Marvin Louis Henry, 38, of Appleton Road in Castleberry, passed away Saturday morning September 12, 2020.

Mr. Henry was a native and lifetime resident of Escambia County, Alabama.  He was employed by Standard Furniture and was of the Baptist faith.  Marvin was a great friend to all that loved and knew him and was known as “Big Shug” to all that were close to him. He had a heart of gold and a smile that would light up a room. He loved to be with his friends playing in cornhole tournaments and watching and supporting Auburn Football.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Bonnie Cain Henry of Castleberry; biological mother, Melinda (James) Jordan of Brewton; biological father, Chuck (Barbara) Crawford of Brewton; brother, Scott Crawford of Andalusia; three sisters, Holly (Brent) Smith of Dothan, Jamie Jordan of Mobile and Chrissy Jordan of Brewton; and many, many friends that loved Marvin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hayward Henry.

Graveside funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2020 at Cooper Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Shannon Odom, Kevin Douglas, Ken Douglas, Jason Clay, Travis Kelley, Brandon Thompson and Jansen Henry.

Luke Earl Thornton

Castleberry

Mr. Luke Earl Thornton, 73, of Janes Mill Road in Castleberry, passed away Monday, September 21, 2020 at a family members residence after a brief illness. He was a native of Brewton, and a long-time resident of Castleberry.

Mr. Thornton was of the Baptist faith, a graduate of Flomaton High School, he served in the National Guard, he lived and worked with AT&T for 27 years in Alaska where he retired. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

He is survived by a special friend, Glenda Diane White; a son, Shannon (Brandy) Thornton of Alaska; a daughter, Sherry (Jeffery) Cooper of Brewton; a brother, Charles (Debbie) Thornton of Bonneville; two sisters, Nadine (Tom) Orlik of Castro, Texas and Betty Ann (Mason) Lord of Pineville, Kent.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Thornton and Larry “Dump” Thornton; and one sister, Johnnie Faye Burks.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 25, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Stuckey officiating. Interment followed in Beulah Cemetery in Brewton.

Jean C. Fuqua

Brewton

Mrs. Jean C. Fuqua, 88, passed away September 6, 2020 at Century Health and Rehab Center in Century, Fla.

Mrs. Fuqua was born in Brewton and was a lifelong resident. She was a secretary-bookkeeper for many years in the Brewton area for car dealerships. Her greatest joys in life were her faith in God, spending time with her family and friends and fellowship with her church and family. She always considered it a pleasure to sit on the porch each day enjoying her flowers and birds.

She was a member of the Bethel Community Mennonite Church for many years and valued being in the congregation of most loving, faithful friends.  Upon moving back to town, she was blessed to be a part of Grace Baptist Church and enjoyed worship and many new friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Greely and Irene Crenshaw; her husband, Willard Fuqua; her granddaughter, Jesseka Tucker; her son-in-law, Greg Tucker; and two sons, Donald Fuqua and Edward Fuqua.

She is survived by three sons, Jerry Morris of Springhill, Fla., Michael (Pam) Morris of Brewton, Jeffrey Fuqua of Venice, Fla.; three daughters, Karen (Lawrence) Weaver of Brewton, Sandra Tucker of Brewton and Donna (Motaz) Abagani of Sarasota, Fla.; one brother, James Crenshaw; one sister, Kattie Shell of Brewton. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Bethel Cemetery in the Bethel Community of Escambia County with Brother John Kemp officiating.

In lieu of flowers, make donations to Bethel Cemetery, 712 Evergreen Ave., Brewton, AL 36426 in care of Gloria Fuqua.

Carolyn Ann Barnes Plataka

Castleberry

Mrs. Carolyn Ann Barnes Plataka, 63, of Englewood Road in Castleberry, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2020 at her residence after a brief illness. She was a native of Chicago and a long-time resident of Castleberry.

Mrs. Platake was of the Pentecostal faith, a 1976 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, and a former employee of Molex. She enjoyed playing guitar, singing and writing gospel songs. 

She is survived by a son, James David Plataka of Cabot, Ark.; four brothers, Ronald (Darlene) Barnes of Castleberry, Wayne Barnes of Castleberry, Bobby Barnes of Castleberry and Scotty (Danielle) Bares of Scottsboro; three sisters, Linda Kay (Daniel) Rivera of Denver, Col., Pamela (Eddie) Springer of The Village, Fla., Patty (Chucky) Hollaway of Wedowee; father of her son, Jimmy Dean Plataka.

Funeral Services were held Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Hall officiating. Interment followed in Cooper Cemetery in Brewton.

Gregory Mark Mayo

Range

Mr. Gregory Mark Mayo, 50, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla.

Mr. Mayo had resided in Range for most of his life. Greg was a mechanic with the City of Brewton. He was a 1987 graduate of Repton High School where he played football and baseball. He was a youth football coach since he was 18 and two years as an assistant coach for Sparta Academy in Evergreen. Greg was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish.

He is preceded in death by his parents Buster and Margie Mayo; a brother, Michael Dewayne Mayo; and a son Cory Mayo.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy McBrayer Mayo of Range;  two sons, Todd Mayo of Range, and Tony McBrayer of Range; two daughters, Kayla Mayo of Range, and Brittany Parker (Devan) of Empire; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 6, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the House of Prayer Pentecostal Church of Range, with Bros. Alton Pittman and Bobby Boatwright officiating. Burial followed in Range Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. 

Pallbearers were Todd Mayo, Tony McBrayer, Daryl Knowles, Tim Blackmon, Daryl Brantley and Todd Conway. Honorary pallbearers were  Mitch Hammack, Tim Hammack and Bobby Knowles.

Joan Jackson Jones

Mrs. Joan Jackson Jones, 69, of County Road 23 in Castleberry, passed away Monday, September 14, 2020. She was a native of Brewton and a long-time resident of East Brewton before moving to Castleberry.

Mrs. Jones was of the Baptist faith, a 1969 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, a graduate of the University of Alabama, and a retired social worker from the State of Alabama with 30 plus years of service. She was an avid Alabama Fan.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald “Ronnie” Jones of Castleberry; one son, Nicholas (Leslie) Jones of Rome, Ga.; one daughter, Nikki Jones of Birmingham; three brothers, Bud (Jackie) Jackson of Birmingham, Alan (Liz) Jackson of Damascus, and Tony (Diane) Stokes of Brewton; two sisters, Sandra (Larry Spinks) Jackson East Brewton and Brenda (Sam) Bagwell of East Brewton; two grandchildren, Jada Jones and Sydney Jones.

Graveside services were held Sunday, September 27, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the Hamden Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Nick Jones officiating. Interment followed in Hamden Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery in Castleberry.

Mr. Ronald “Ronnie” Gene Jones, 72, of County Road 23 in Castleberry passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020 in a Pensacola, Fla., hospital. He was a native and life-long resident of Castleberry. Mr. Jones was of the Baptist faith, a 1966 graduate of Conecuh County High School, a U.S. Navy Veteran, and a retired salesman from Evergreen Auto Parts Store. 

He is survived a one son, Nicholas (Leslie) Jones of Rome, Ga.; one daughter, Nikki Jones of Birmingham; one brother, Charley “Dudley” (Brenda) Jones of Monroeville; two grandchildren, Jada Jones and Sydney Jones.

Graveside Services were held Sunday, September 27, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the Hamden Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Nick Jones officiating. Interment followed in Hamden Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery in Castleberry.

Angela Kelley McNew

Cordele, Ga.

Mrs. Angela Kelley McNew, known to all her friends and family as Andie, passed away unexpectedly from a brief illness on September 27, 2020.

Andie was born October 7, 1963 to Rebecca Frazier and Larry Kelley in Lee County. She was a lifelong resident of Brewton before recently moving to Cordele Ga. Andie was a graduate of T.R Miller High School and Jefferson Davis Community College. She was a retired registered nurse by profession and touched the lives of many patients, throughout her career. Her co-workers remember her as someone who always had a smile on her face and a nice word to say. Her laugh was contagious.

She is survived by her husband, Ricky McNew of Cordele, Ga; sons, Heath (Rachel) Stewart of Brewton, Dylon Godwin of Monroeville, Chris McNew (Tonya) of East Brewton, James Ray McNew of Dallas, Texas, Nathan McNew of Big Springs, Texas; grandchildren, Hadley Beasley, Lillian Beasley and Maxwell Stewart, all of Brewton, Alexis McNew and Blake McNew of East Brewton; great- granddaughter Isabella McNew of East Brewton; step-father Dr. Carl (Sharon) McInnish of Brewton; brothers, Jim (Jennifer) McInnish of Monroeville, Lance (Renee) Mcinnish of Brewton, Danny (Ashley) McInnish of Auburn, Carl (Kathryn) McInnish of Brewton and numerous nieces and nephews. Family was the most important thing to Andie and she loved being together.

Mrs. McNew was proceeded in death by her mother, Rebecca Frazier McInnish of Brewton, father Larry Kelley of Lee County, sister, Chrystal Browder of East Brewton and beloved grandson Daniel Stewart of Byrneville, Fla.

A memorial service will be held at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home Brewton, Alabama on September 30, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas Quick officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the memorial service with family being accepted at 5:00 p.m. and friends at 6:00 p.m. There will be no graveside service at this time.

Pauk Kovash

Flomaton

Mr. Pauk Kovash, 85, of Old Atmore Road in Flomaton passed away September 3, 2020 at his residence after a brief illness. He was a native of Nanty Glo Penn., a former resident of California, and a long-time resident of Flomaton.

Mr. Kovash was a member of the St. Maurice Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy and was retired from the post office with 35 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nora Williams Kovash of Flomaton; one daughter, Steffanie Kovash of Flomaton; one grandchild, Tabitha; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Kovash and Remington Kovash.

Memorial Services are scheduled for Saturday afternoon, October 3, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Maurice Catholic Church in Brewton with Father Patrick Madden officiating.
