Local churches, groups and organizations are planning a variety of events for the harvest season and there is no shortage of activities for those looking to celebrate the season with fun.

Both Brewton and East Brewton will be observing trick-or-treat time on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. Drivers are asked to use extra caution when traveling through the cities during that time.

A list of activities submitted to The Brewton Standard offer up a chance to take advantage of what is gearing up to be a nice fall-like season in the area.

Activities set for October 29 through November 7 are as follows:

October 29

Witches of Brewton will ride through the city beginning at T.R. Miller High School’s fieldhouse parking lot at 5:40 p.m. The ride will travel on Belleville Avenue and will end in downtown Brewton. The event is being coordinated by Meredith Buck and is raising funds to help with expenses for the family Peyton Boyette, an 11-year-old who has recently being diagnosed with leukemia. The entry fee is $10 per witch with all proceeds benefiting Peyton’s family. For those not already registered to ride as a witch, registration may be done on-sight beginning at 5:15 p.m. With 65 committed riders as of press time, Buck expects others will join in the effort.

Trunk or Treat and a Movie will be presented by Coastal Alabama Community College on the Brewton campus beginning at 5:15 p.m. with Truck or Treat in the Alabama Technology Network’s (ATN) parking lot. The outdoor movie, Hocus Pocus, will begin at 6:15 p.m. There is no admission charge. For more information, contact the College at  809-1532 or 809-1550.

October 31

Grace Covenant International Church will hold a Harvest Festival beginning a 2 p.m. and lasting until 6 p.m. There will games, prizes, bouncy house, cotton candy, popcorn, chili, boiled peanuts, a cake walk, and a hay ride. Game times are from 2 to 4:30 p.m. with the hayride at 5 p.m. There will be noo charge for any activities or food during the event. The church is located in Pollard at 1064 Misella Street.

First Assembly of God in East Brewton will be hosting a Worship Night beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event is co-hosted by the church and Kara Scurlock Sawyer and will focus on prayer and worship. Children are welcome, but will need to stay with parents.

Community Trunk or Treat will be held at 500 Sowell Street (O’Bannon Park) from 5 to 8 p.m. Masks will be required. Sanitation measures will be incorporated at the event. Wayne’s Outreach Neighborhood Park will host their first Fall Harvest Festival Fundraiser from noon to 5 p.m. the event will be held on Sellers Street at the corner lot. The day will feature games and events as well as contests. There will be an obstacle course, sack race, a 3-legged race, cake walk, pumpkin walk, hula hooping, face painting and more. Wristbands are $5 for ages 3 and up. A Costume contest for pre-school, elementary and middle school age children will be held. Trunk or Treat will be included as well as photos with Mr. or Mrs. Pumpkin Head. A snack shop will available. Please wear masks and observe social distancing. November 1

Fall Festival at East Brewton Church of the Nazarene will begin at 4 p.m. The church is located at 307 Cedar Street in East Brewton. There will be games and inflatables for the children. There will be free hot dogs, chips and a chili cook-off at 5 p.m. The movie “Horton Hears a Who” will also be shown during the evening. Everyone is welcome.

November 7

The Greater Brewton Lions Club will host their 16th annual Car Show “Ribs and Rides” from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in downtown Brewton at Camp 31. Car entry fees are $25 for one vehicle or $40 for two vehicles. Door prizes, a 50-50- drawing and music will be included in the day.

Castleberry Volunteer Fire Department will be hosing a Family Fun Day beginning at noon and going to 6 p.m. The event is held as a fund raiser for equipment needed for the department. There will fun, food and games for the whole family including a cornhole tournament, a turkey shoot, cake walk, kids games, a silent auction and rifle raffle.
