The Brewton Civic League has what may be one of the best gifts for those on your holiday shopping list. And, you’ll be helping others in the community when you make a purchase.

Robyn Hydard, president of the local organization, said the books are now available through the club members and will be available Thursday evening in two locations.

“We will have a special booth set up during the Holiday Kick-off Event in front of Jus Do and at the Choo Choo Market park,” Hydar said. “We will have plenty of the books available for those who are looking to pick up a gift for the upcoming holiday season. Our booths will operate from 4 to 7 p.m.”

Hydar said some books will be available after Thursday at Jus Do and through any club member.

The book, a reprint from a project by the club in the 1980s, has been a favorite among cooks in the area for many years.

“We hope that everyone enjoys a look at recipes through the years,” Hydar said. “These recipes were collected and submitted by club members and members of the community.”

The cost of the book is $20 and helps to fund many projects of the Brewton Civic League.

Hydar said the group regularly assists area non-profit organizations in their work in the community including Drexel & Honeybees Donations-Only Restaurant, Escambia County Habitat for Humanity, Paws Crossed Rescue, Backpack Buddies, The Brewton Christmas Project and the Brewton Benevolent Fund, and others.

To learn more about the club or to make a purchase of a cookbook, contact any member or send a message to the Brewton Civic League’s Facebook page.

The Brewton Civic League has served the Brewton community for close to 100 years. The group has long been a supporter of community people and events including past sponsorships of Girl Scouts, nursing scholarships at Jefferson Davis Community College (Coastal Alabama Community College) as well as many other support throughout the community.

The Brewton Civic League is a group of women who lead the non-profit organization in efforts to beautify the community through a variety of avenues that include community events, presentations and fund raisers.
