Veterans in south Alabama are on the list to receive COVID-19 vaccinations as part of a state plan for administering vaccine doses.

According to information from the Alabama Department of Veteran’s Affairs, the first veterans to receive the vaccine were residents at the Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City. The first round of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine was administered to the home’s residents and staff as part of the Phase 1A of the Alabama COVUD-19 Vaccination Allocation Plans.

Other residents in Veteran’s homes across the state are in line to receive vacdinations in the coming weeks.

Scheduling for upcoming visits to Veteran’s homes are as follows:

  • Dec. 31, Floyd E. ‘Tut’ Fann State Veterans Home in Huntsville
  • Jan 7, William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette
  • Jan 11, Colonel Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home in Pell City

“We are very pleased with the planning and preparation that went into rolling out the vaccine today for our residents and staff at the Bill Nichols State Veterans Home,” said ADVA Commissioner Kent Davis. “Our staff and the pharmacy team did an outstanding job administering the vaccine and we’re on track to complete the first round of vaccinations for all four homes by Jan. 11.”

The state veterans homes will receive the second and final dose of the Pfizer vaccine by February.
