An investigation is in progress at a gas station off I-65’s exit 54 near Atmore regarding an officer-involved shooting this morning.

According to a release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency:

On Friday, 1/08/2021, at the request of Escambia County Sheriff’s Office,
Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI)
are investigating an officer‐involved shooting on Friday, January 8, 2021 involving Poarch Tribal
Police. One person was injured in the shooting and transported to a nearby medical facility for
treatment. None of the officers involved were injured. Nothing further is available as the
investigation is ongoing. Once complete, findings will be turned over to Escambia County
District Attorney’s Office.
