A pair of ‘hard belly’ landings happened over the weekend with the second skid happening at the Brewton Municipal Airport.

According to officials, the hard landing happened around noon on Saturday and has been determined to be “pilot error.”

There were no injuries reported in the incident and officials say the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will conduct an investigation into the incident.

The Brewton Airport may see some activity in the near future of a different sort.

Last week, Earl Lambert addressed the Brewton City Council to give details on grant for improvements at the Brewton Airport.

“We have received a $150,000 grant to improve the taxi ways, ramps and payment areas around the rental hangers,” Lambert said. “Those things are not part of the Navy lease. The Navy will take care of the runway as part of that lease agreement. This grant will be a 100 percent grant from the Federal government. Normally the grants are a 90/5/5 grant with the city matching 5 percent, the state matching 5 percent. This  means that it will be not cost to the city for these improvements.”

The Brewton Airport will receive $283,520 to seal aprons, taxiway pavement surfaces and joints as part of the  Federal Aviation Administration grant awards.

Those funds are a portion of $12.28 million award to Alabama airports for upgrades, safety advances, equipment and land acquisitions.

The Brewton Airport is located south of Brewton on U.S. 41 in Riverview.
