Independence Day 2021 will look a bit different from the 2020 celebration that didn’t happen in East Brewton.

East Brewton Mayor Terry Clark said plans to move ahead with a July 4th Celebration are currently in the works.

“We will have our July 4th celebration this year,” Clark said Monday. “But, we will be holding that celebration on July 5th.”

Last year, Hurricane Sally swept through the area and damaged the East Brewton Civic Center badly enough to require demolition.

The city typically held associated activities for the July 4th celebration at the civic center. This year, Clark said other arrangements have been made.

“We will still have our spades tournament and bingo, but we will be holding those events at the S.A.I.L. Center on Williamson Street,” Clark said. “We will have all of the other activities, including the duck race and the entertainment at Ft. Crawford Park as usual.”

Clark said ducks for the annual duck race are already on sale at the East Brewton City Hall.

Entertainment for this year’s event will be High Horse taking the stage at the park with a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.

The usual festivities will continue at Ft. Crawford Park with planning by the Ft. Crawford Commission.

Concessions will be available throughout the day and proceeds will help fund the 2022 event.
