Swimmers of all ages have waited patiently as the City of Brewton completed work for the newest addition to recreational activities in the community.

The Brewton City Pool, located at Dogwood Hills Park, will open at noon today with a special ceremony heralding the arrival of summer.

Mayor Yank Lovelace said the pool opening is one that will be a learning process for the city.

“This is the first time in a number of years that the city has had a public pool,” Lovelace said. “We will be learning as we go and making changes and expanding as we move through the season.”

The pool hours will be Monday through Saturday with adult only swimming from noon to 1 p.m. each day. The pool will be open to all ages from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The pool will not be open on Sundays. Cost for swimming is $2 for adults and $1 for children.

In addition to the new pool opening for business, the city will be holding a special dedication ceremony at 5:30 p.m. today for the splash pad recently completed at the J.L. Fisher Center. The location for the splash pad will be known as the Willie James Blue Children’s Park  following the dedication ceremonies. This will be the official beginning of operations for the splash pad that will be available for use by the community.

The J.L. Fisher Community Center is located at 301 Liles Boulevard just off Sowell Road in Brewton.

The center is home to a special events area as well as children’s programs throughout the summer. The center also is home to Brewton’s Caring Hearts’ food pantry.
