Hank Riddle is being dubbed “Superman” by his grandsons after he flew on Saturday morning.

Riddle was in his home in the Kirkland community Saturday morning when a EF-2 tornado ripped through the area. His home was destroyed in the swirl of wind throwing the homeowner some 100 feet in the process.

His granddaughter, Autumn Emmons, updated friends and family about Riddle’s condition following the incident.

“This 70 year old old man was laying in his bed when a tornado hit his house,” Emmons said.  “The tornado slung him about 100 yards to the end of his drive way.. He never lost consciousness and was talking to my brother the second he found him. He has a C6 and C7 fracture and a possible broken wrist. God was definitely looking out for him. We are so thankful for all the prayers.”

Initially, it was thought that Riddle would need some surgery following his injury, but doctors didn’t believe it would be necessary after evaluating xrays and test results, Emmons said.

“He still has a long recovery ahead and they literally lost everything,” Emmons said. “Please keep them in your prayers. I also want to thank everyone who came out to help us in the pouring rain to try and save as much as we could. We have the best family and friends ever!!!”

Emmons was one of only a handful of people injured as a result of the tornado. Emmons and one other patient were listed with substantial injuries while other injuries were described as minor. No deaths were reported as a result of the tornado.
