“We need something to help folks relax right now,” said Terry Clark, Mayor of East Brewton. “We will still have our 4th of July celebration.”

Although the celebration is set for July 5th this year, Clark said the event will hopefully allow those impacted by last weekend’s tornado to have a chance to get the trauma off their minds for just a little while.

“We will kick things off at 6 p.m. with the duck race depending on the condition of the creek levels,” Clark said. “Due to everything that has gone on and the condition of things in East Brewton, we have decided not to have the mid-day events as we have had in the past. We won’t be doing the Spades tournament or Bingo games this year.”

The Fort Crawford Committee will be selling hamburgers and drinks at the festivities, Clark said.

“All of the proceeds from what is sold at the park Monday evening will be earmarked to assist victims of the tornado,” Clark said. “We will be taking cash donations as well to help fund the needs those victims may have.”

Clark said High Horse, an annual favorite for the event, will take the stage at 8 p.m. with the fireworks show starting at 9:30 p.m.

“We had considered cancelling this event again this year, but our payments had already been made and we knew that folks in our city and around the community might need a little break from what we’ve been dealing with,” Clark said. “We hope that everyone can come out to Ft. Crawford Park and enjoy a little fun, listen to some good music, and do a little relaxing in honor of the holiday.”

The line-up of events for the evening will start with the Duck Race at 6 p.m. followed by entertainers on the stage beginning at 6:20 p.m. with Melinda Spiller; Lois Crenshaw at 6:40; Wanda Green and Yvonne Lisenby at 7 p.m.; Melissa Owens at 7:20; and Tonya Graves at 7:40. High Horse Band will take the stage at 8 p.m. to end the days entertainment playing until 9:30 p.m. at the beginning of the fireworks display.

For those wishing to make a financial contribution to be distributed to tornado victims in East Brewton, donations will be accepted at Monday’s festivities or taken at East Brewton City Hall, which is located on Forrest Avenue in East Brewton. Donations will be accepted during regular office hours.

Ft. Crawford Park is located at the intersection of Snowden St. and Forrest Avenue in East Brewton. Parking is available at the old East Brewton Civic Center site along Forrest Avenue and in the large parking area located adjacent to Ft. Crawford Park behind Piggly Wiggly.

Snowden Street will be blocked off to regular traffic at 6 p.m. and will remain closed until after the fireworks show.
