Local State Farm agents and representatives were on hand Thursday just before lunch to present a ‘big check’ to Lisa and Freddie McMillan with Drexell & Honeybee’s Donations only restaurant.

Local State Farm Agent Spike Maxwell along with members of his staff were joined by staff members from Wendy Folmar’s agency to present the $10,000 check to the McMillans.

“This money is from our parent company,” Maxwell said. “The company contacted us about having funds available for non-profit groups in our community. After submitting a few possibilities, the company chose Drexell & Honeybee’s as the recipient.”

Maxwell said the donation is well-deserved for a couple that works to serve those in the community.

“It’s no secret we had a tornado come through our area recently,” Maxwell said. “When that happened, Drexell & Honeybee’s offered to feed anybody that needed to be fed. From first responders, utility workers, folks who were out of their homes and in peril, she was ready to help. She opened the restaurant seven days a week in order to meet those needs. That was just a wonderful service to the community and they have a ministry here. This is a great way to thank Lisa and Freddie for all they’ve done for the community.”
