A pair of local residents are working to establish an organization designed to help those in need.

Stephanie Johnson and Latecia Betts have created “Operation Give Back” as a way to assist area residents who may be up against some hard times.

“We will be collecting items during the coming weeks and going forward to make things available for those in need,” Johnson said. “We are also looking for volunteers to help with collection and distribution of donated items.”

Johnson said the organization will be collecting food items from now through Oct. 31 to be distributed before the Thanksgiving holiday.

“We will have giveaway dates of Nov. 5 and 13,” Johnson said. “We hope to be able to serve about 250 families. If we have more we will work to serve more people.”

The group plans to serve residents in the Brewton, East Brewton, Monroeville and Evergreen communities.
