In what has become an customary thing, Lisa and Freddie McMillan will be opening Drexell & Honeybees Donations Only Restaurant to the public for a special holiday meal.

The McMillan couple are known in the community for making meals possible for those who have little or nothing to pay in return. Their mission to feed the hungry takes center stage during holidays.

Drexell & Honeybee’s has offered special menus for special days from Veteran’s Day to a big Thanksgiving feast last month.

As the Christmas holiday approaches, the couple will continue giving to the community they call home.

“A lot of people don’t have family who come in for Christmas and they don’t have that special holiday meal,” Lisa McMillan said. “We wanted to be able to offer that special meal and some fellowship.”

The special Christmas day luncheon has been a part of the McMillan tradition for more than 10 years.

“We’ve been doing this now for about 10 years,” Lisa said. “It may be longer than that, but I know it’s been at least 10 years. I wouldn’t miss this for anything, unless I was on my sick bed.”

McMillan said the luncheon is just another way to celebrate a special day.

“We celebrate the birth of Jesus by helping other people to be able to celebrate with strangers and enjoy a good meal,” Lisa said. “This is just our way to celebrate the most special holiday of the year, the day of Jesus’ birth. We want to celebrate with this party for Jesus. And we ask folks to come out and enjoy the people and the day.”

Drexell & Honeybee’s Donations Only Restaurant is located on Lee Street in historic downtown Brewton. Lunch will be served on Christmas day beginning at 11 a.m. There is no charge for the meal.
