Gas prices around the area are hovering at the $4 per gallon mark — the highest prices since 2012-14 when prices average $3.59 per gallon.
That price increase is roughly $1.50 more per gallon than seen in 2021.
With no end in sight to the rising prices, motorists may be changing their driving habits to accommodate for the increased cost to operate a vehicle.
As of Tuesday morning, gas prices throughout the Brewton/East Brewton area remained near the $4 mark.
Although anyone who drives a vehicle is certainly feeling the “pinch at the pump,” right now, many are keeping a good sense of humor about the current gasoline situation.
In a question posed to our readers on social media, some car owners are changing their driving habits, but many are limited in their ability to change their current driving needs. Following are some of the comments we received through our Facebook page:

I turned my car off while sitting in drive thru for 20 minutes
Sasha Johnson: I cry on my 1 hour commute to work now!
Ruby Tolbert: Get my gas in Alabama I live in Century but work in Brewton so I get everything at one time. On my days off I try to just stay home.
Aly Marie Williams: I’m just questioning why we’re in this mess when there was a perfectly good pipeline that could have been opened. There’s plenty of gas right here in America. Why are we outsourcing?
Cone Matthew: I dug up a dinosaur and am currently in the process of refining it
Jessica Katie: Try to keep as much gas as I can in vehicle. I have a Hyundai Elantra and get around 42 mpg. Eliminate excess weight in vehicle. Make sure tires are properly inflated . And use as to save and or find the lowest prices. Only make essential trips.
Whitney Hope: Try to top off when you reach half a tank,think about your day get everything in order so your not having to make special trips talk to your children talk to family and friends and maybe start sharing rides if your able!
James Fountain: I have been using GasBuddy app for awhile now it saves average of $4-5/20 gallons of gas. Other than that I have not changed my driving habits.
Eve M. Pearson: Since gas is so high now I don’t even let the song finish playing when I get home now.
Average gasoline prices in Alabama have risen 56.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.91 per gallon on Monday. According to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,348 stations in Alabama. Prices in Alabama are 75.2 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.41 per gallon higher than a year ago.
The national average price of gasoline has risen 46.5 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.06 per gallon as of Monday. The national average is up 61.1 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands $1.29 per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
