Drivers across the country have suffered sticker shock at the gas pumps for the past couple of weeks. As of Sunday, some stations across the state were actually showing a drop in prices.
As of Sunday across the state, the average gasoline prices have been mostly unchanged in the last week. Prices across the state show the average is up 83.6 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands $1.47 per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
In the Brewton and East Brewton area, gas prices are showing a decline as of press time Tuesday.
In East Brewton, gasoline stood at $4.03 per gallon Tuesday. In Brewton, the lowest price for gasoline was at Murphy Oil on Douglas Avenue at $4.03 per gallon. Other Brewton stations, in order of pricing, included Chevron on Douglas Avenue at $4.05; Country Express on South Boulevard at $4.05; Shell on South Boulevard at $4.05; Tom Thumb on Douglas Avenue at $4.07; Marathon on Douglas Avenue at $4.09 and Country Express on Douglas Avenue at $4.12 per gallon.
“After a furious increase in the national average over the last two weeks, the top appears to be in with average gas prices slowly starting to decline over the last few days,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysts at GasBuddy. “While the decrease could be short-lived, it is nonetheless a well-needed break from the large surge in gas prices we’ve experienced over the last few weeks. The situation remains fluid, and escalations remain very possible, if not likely. For now, a $4.50 per gallon national average is off the table, but it certainly could be a future possibility as long as there is conflict between Russia and Ukraine.”
Gasoline prices around the Brewton and East Brewton area range from $4.04 to $4.19 per gallon.
