Escambia County Commissioners made their support for the work of the Escambia County Regional Child Advocacy Department known Monday by presenting a proclamation designating April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in the county.
On hand for the presentation was Stephanie Myrick, director and forensic interview for the Kathy Hill Child Advocacy Center, also referred to as Escambia County Regional Child Advocacy Center, and Kayla Gassner, family/victim advocate with the Brewton-based office.
Commission Chairman Raymond Wiggins said signing the proclamation is an honor.
“We are fortunate to be able to support CAC ro their work in preventing child abuse,” Wiggins said. “It’s sad that their services are needed, but we are happy to support them in their work.”
Throughout the county, residents and business owners are promoting the prevention of child abuse by using blue ribbons and other decorations as a show of support through the month of April. The CAC has issued a challenge for area residents to wear blue each Friday during the month to show their support for the month-long time of recognition.
