Earth Day activities are planned throughout Brewton and across Escambia County next week in observance of Earth Day on April 22.
The Escambia County Commission is working to help citizens be part of the solution to trash problems in the county by providing the tools needed to clean the roadways in the county.
Escambia County Commission Chairman Raymond Wiggins said bags for litter will be provided throughout the districts in the county.
“We have secured a supply of trash bags to be used while picking up debris along our roadways,” Wiggins said. “Citizens can contact the commissioner of their district to get those bags.”
Wiggins said there will also be roll-off units available for trash disposal throughout the county. Locations for the units will be at the county’s warehouse locations in Boykin, Brewton and in Atmore, Wiggins said.
“If someone is going to be working a particular roadway, they can let us know so that we can have someone pick up filled bags in the area,” Wiggins said. “We will have personnel ready to pick up those bags along the way.”
To contact a commissioner for bags or to schedule pick ups along roadways: District One – Commissioner Steven Dickey 251-363-6227; District Two – Commissioner Raymond Wiggins 251-238-1441; District Three – Commissioner Scottie Stewart 251-727-2313; District Four – Commissioner Brandon Smith 251-359-4493; and District Five – Commissioner Karean Reynolds 251-253-1506.
Brewton city officials are also making arrangements for special services and activities for the Earth Day observation. Plans were still being finalized as of press time Tuesday. Details will be announced in the coming days.
