The aroma of boiling seafood and the sounds of music will fill Jennings Park this Sunday afternoon for the annual Kick It At The Creek event hosted by the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce.
COC Executive Director Judy Crane said the event plans are complete and ready to make the day enjoyable for everyone.
“We have 2,000 pounds of crawfish ordered and several hundred pounds of shrimp,” Crane said. “And for those who don’t care for seafood, we will have pizza-by-the-slice available. We will also have Pepsi available as well.”
The annual event has been known to sell out early, so those attending are invited to come ready for service beginning at 2 p.m.
“We will start selling at 2:00,” Crane said. “It is first-come, first-served this year.”
The Wolfe Johns Blues Band will be performing during the event, Crane said.
“The band will be set up and ready to perform as we begin serving,” Crane said. “Everyone is invited to bring a chair, blanket or whatever you want to sit on with you to the park and spend the afternoon with us.”
Sponsors for the 2022 event are David’s Catfish House and Peach Chevrolet.
“Looking ahead to the forecast, we are expecting a beautiful day,” Crane said. “The weather should be perfect for an afternoon in the park.”
The forecast for Sunday in Brewton is calling for partly cloudy skies with only a 10 percent chance of rain. Highs will be around 87 degrees for the afternoon event.
In addition to the food items, the Chamber will also have the annual event t-shirts available as well. Shirts are $25 for adults and $20 for youth sizes, Crane said.
Josh Godwin will once again be manning the pots to provide some wonderful food for attendees, Crane said.
“We would like to thank Josh Godwin with David’s Catfish for all of his help,” Crane said. “ He orders and cooks everything for us. We couldn’t do it without him.”
Several pots will be boiling throughout the morning and into the afternoon in order to prepare the food for attendees. Crawfish, shrimp and combo plates will be available and will include an array of sides including potatoes and corn boiled with the main course. Crawfish or shrimp plates will be $20 with combo plates containing both items at $25. Food will be served while supplies last.
