Residents and visitors at The Meadows said goodbye to director Lynda Leigh Stringfellow Wednesday — but she isn’t going far.
“I’ve still got a lot left in my heart,” Stringfellow said. “I want to go back over to Westgate to help in Social Services over there again.”
Stringfellow began her work at Westgate Village 22 years ago working in the Social Services department. Leaving her full-time position as director at The Meadows, Stringfellow will return to her roots, but on a smaller scale.
“It’s time for me to slow down a little,” Stringfellow said. “I’ve been on call 24/7 for 10 years. I’ve loved every minute of it but I’m ready to take things a little slower.”
Stringfellow was honored with a reception on the front porch at The Meadows Wednesday and received well wishes from dozens of visitors and the residents at the facility.
“Thank you for allowing me to provide care for the families,” Stringfellow said. “I appreciate everybody here. Mark (Manning) and Crowne Management have been great to work with. I’ve loved my 10 years here. I would love to say, but I can’t do it like I want to do it. So, it’s time to move on and head by over to Westgate to help there again. If i can put a smile on somebody’s face and help a family, that’s what I want to do.”
Larry Manning, administrator of West Gate Village for Crowne Management, said Stringfellow’s time at The Meadows has given her the opportunity to touch many lives.
“We’re happy to take some time to recognize her for her years of service and all the people and lives she’s impacted,” Manning said. “We want to thank her for the job she’s done and how much she means to all of us.”
Manning said Stringfellow’s move back to her roots at West Gate Village will be a happy homecoming.
“She’s not ready to quit,” Manning said. “We’re excited for her and now she’s ready to transition back and slow down a little. She’ll be doing some of the things she’s done before.”
Taking over the helm at The Meadows as Stringfellow departs is Hannah Helton.
The Atmore resident has already stepped in to take on the task of managing the facility.
