It’s been just over a year since the opening of Aunt Elsie’s Ice Cream Shoppe, and owner Amanda Quick says it’s been a good year.
“We’ve worked out a lot of kinks since we opened,” Quick said. “We ware getting everything where it needs to be. We’ve made some changes, added a few things and have our eyes on some other options.”
Since the opening of the shoppe, Quick — with the help of family — has made sure to keep things interesting for the business.
“We now offer rentals for private events,” Quick said. “ We’ve hosted a lot of birthday parties, even some retirement, engagement and graduation celebrations. After all, ice cream is a universal way to celebrate. No matter your age, everyone loves ice cream.”
Quick’s sister, Grace Cannon, works regularly in the shoppe and has also seen some changes that have been a hit for the customers.
“We are constantly changing flavors,” Cannon said. “We now make milkshakes that we didn’t have in the beginning. We also have added customized banana splits. You don’t have to get the usual flavors, we can mix it up depending on what you like.
Quick said some plans are including an opportunity to bring ice cream to different locations.
“We just purchased an ice cream cart that we’re working on restoring,” Quick said. “So it’ll be a great opportunity to serve our local schools by rewarding students with a sweet treat. It will also be available for private parties, weddings, or company functions. We’re looking forward to having it up and running in the coming month.”
Summer is the perfect time for a cool treat, but ice cream is a year-round enjoyment.
“We had good business during the cooler months, but we know that summer is the most popular time for ice cream treats,” Quick said. “Right now, our hours are from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and we’re open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays for those after-church treats.”
Quick said the hours will change some in the fall, but the shoppe will still be open to provide those cool treats.
Aunt Elsie’s Ice Cream Shoppe is located on South Boulevard at the foot of the Burnt Corn Creek Bridge adjacent to Jennings Park.
