With planning already underway, the Escambia County Habitat for Humanity is preparing for Zombies — walking or not.
Shea Hines, executive director for the sponsoring organization, said there will be plenty of opportunities for fun during the annual event.
“We will, of course, be hosting the Zombie Walk again this year,” Hines said. “But, even for those who don’t participate in the walk, we will have lots of other activities for those who want to help.”
Along with the walk — which will feature a decorated, haunted trail — there will be a costume contest and a ‘trunk or treat’ for visitors to the event.
The Zombie Walk will be held in conjunction with the annual Cold Moon Fest with all activities planned at Dogwood Hills Park on Douglas Avenue.
“We will have a bounce house for the kids and face painting,” Hines said. “Our event will get underway at 3 p.m. and continue through the evening.”
Trunk or treat will open at 4 p.m. with the Zombie Walk kicking off at 5 p.m., Hines said.
Sponsors for the event are being sought as well as vendors for the event.
“We are seeking sponsors again this year,” Hines said. “We had about 15 sponsors last year and would like to grow that number this year.”
Vendor space will also be available again this year with a $100 fee for spaces at the park, Hines said.
“The biggest thing about this event is that it will help us raise money for our planned projects,” Hines said. “We are trying to work on a build in Flomaton that we hope to begin this month. Any funds raised would help us toward that building project.”
Along with building safe, affordable homes for those in need in the county, Hines said the group is also planning some smaller projects.
“We have three ‘Brush with Kindness’ projects planned soon as well,” Hines said. “We will be working on windows and floors for some homeowners who need some assistance with getting that done to make their home safe. This event will also help raise funds for those projects.”
Although a partner family has not yet been chosen for the next home project, Hines said their are families on the list hoping to be selected.
“We certainly plan to have our next family selected by the date of the Zombie Walk,” Hines said.
Vendor space will be limited, Hines said.
“Anyone who wants to set up their business at the event is welcome,” Hines said. “We will be doing our part to make sure that no vendor is duplicated. We already have Pig Daddy’s set to provide some good barbecue for the evening. We are looking for other food vendors to come out for the event to provide variety for those attending.”
