A new business has opened in historic downtown Brewton.
The Olive Branch boutique opened to a waiting crowd last Thursday with owner Mallory Hendrix welcoming friends and customers to the store.
“I am a firm believer in ‘when one door closes another door opens’,” Hendrix said. “Through the process of starting The Olive Branch Boutique, it was very evident that God had his hands in this project. My goal for many years has been to own my own little shop. After working in retail for several years, it was time to take the leap and start my own small business. I wanted a place for everyone of all ages, sizes, and everyone in the family. I wanted a place that honored God because he has done so much for me. I wanted items to share his love and his message to others. “
Hendrix has achieved that goal with the opening of her shop.
“Opening the Olive Branch has been a labor of love and a family project,” Hendrix said.
“I am very lucky to have such a supportive family that has helped me every step of the way.”
Hendrix takes pride in knowning that by setting out to achieve her dream, she also helped other small-business owners as well.
“Through renovations, we were able to use local businesses like Adam Gasner Construction and ProAir to help us create the most perfect shop,” Hendrix said.
She offered special thanks to The L House, Jus Do, Novus Glass, Landis Designs, and Herrington’s the Florist for their part in the journey as well.
“I’m a Brewton girl,” Hendrix said. “I love living in Atmore, but Brewton is where I grew up. Brewton holds a special place in my heart, so I knew this is where I wanted my business to be. It feels good to be back and serving my faithful community and loyal customers again. This is my town, and these are my people.”
The Olive Branch carries mostly women’s apparel and accessories, but also offers men’s and children’s items as well.
“Being a new mom, I wanted somewhere local to provide everyday children’s clothing too,” Hendrix said. “I’m very blessed with a selfless grandmother who helps me keep my baby at the shop every day. I love being able to take her to work with me.”
The opening day for the shop was even more special for Hendrix.
“We opened Thursday, September 8th, which was mine and my sister’s birthday,” Hendrix said. “It was a great turnout and celebration I look forward to welcoming everyone to The Olive Branch Boutique.”
Maegan Stanley Salter, Hendrix’s sister, said the shop is just an extension of who her sister.
“The Olive Branch Boutique is the epitome of what my sister, stands for,” Salter said. “As soon as you walk into the door you feel the warmth and love that she has for others and her community. She has put in a lot of hard work in getting the shop ready for customers and making sure it is the welcoming and home like environment for visitors to feel relaxed and comfortable when shopping. Each item of merchandise was precisely and intentionally picked due to the meaning behind it, story it tells, and/or the cause it benefits. Mallory is a very sentimental person which is apparent in the merchandise that is sold at the Olive Branch as well as the furniture that is displayed. Everything has a story behind it. She intentionally has something for anyone and everyone which is also unique and special. She has a true servant’s heart and loves to serve others. That is also very much apparent when you enter the Olive Branch and are welcomed by her vivacious and infectious personality, sweet smile, and caring heart. You will be hooked. She makes us all proud and we can’t wait to see the amazing things that she and The Olive Branch Boutique brings to Brewton.”
Courtney McBride was among some of the first customers to visit the new business.
“The Olive Branch is a welcoming boutique filled with unique items that are wrapped in spiritual intentionality,” McBride said. “From the moment you walk in, the warm and cozy shop makes you want to explore all the store has to offer. From clothes to shoes to jewelry prices that point to Christ, everything has a purpose. The shop is simply delightful and wraps you in a hug from the moment you walk inside.”
Brewton resident Becky O’Neil also found delight in Hendrix’s new venture.
“What a delightful shopping experience the newly opened Olive Branch provided,” O’Neil said. “When one is surrounded by friends, beautiful merchandise, and an entire family supporting the dream of one of their own, how could you feel anything but delight! Welcome to downtown Brewton, Olive Branch! We are thrilled you are here…and we will be back!”
Hendrix has gained a reputation for listening to customers and providing a welcoming atmosphere in which to shop. That approach to retail has garnered the praise of many customers.
“When I heard Mallory was coming with a new venture, I knew it would be a gem,” said Bridget Golden. “She has an impeccable style, taste, and the personality of an angel! Something amazing has landed on Belleville Avenue and I for one am thrilled to have my personal stylist back!”
Sharmon O’Bannon echoed that sentiment recognizing the faith Hendrix has incorporated into the new business.
“Walking into the Olive Branch was akin to walking into a home church right before the preacher starts,” O’Bannon said. “Everyone was dressed up and hugs all around. I saw people I haven’t seen since college. I adored the clothes, but the mustard seed bracelet was my find of the day. It’s that faith y’all! The whole reason this store is here! I’m so glad I got to be one of the very first ones there. I look forward to those mirror selfies that make me want to spend too much money. Welcome to downtown Olive Branch!”
The shop is located downtown at 208 Belleville Avenue and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday’s from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For updates on the store, follow The Olive Branch on Facebook.
