The view along Douglas Avenue may be a little different today as workers set what will be Sonic Drive-In.

Dave Hartzog, director of operations for Quality Drive-In LLC, said the addition of the building in Brewton will be unique for the company.

“This new build will be unique for our company since we only have three systems in place like the one in Brewton,” Hartzog said. “This is a modular building and is going to be different from what people usually see when they see a Sonic in other cities. This one will be more colorful and ready for business a little sooner.”

Hartzog said the expected opening for the Brewton location will be sometime in mid-October.

“We’re excited to be here,” Hartzog said. “We’ve been working on this for a little over a year. We are looking forward to coming into the community and building relationships with the schools, the Chamber of Commerce, everyone here.”

This location will be the first of its kind for Quality Drive-In, the parent company for the new Sonic Drive-In, Hartzog said.

The addition of the dining establishment in Brewton will be continuing their search for employees.

“We attended a job fair here last month and were impressed,” Hartzog said. “We have five managers – all local people – already in place for the restaurant. We will still need to hire about 40 people. We’re looking for folks for days, nights and weekends – every shift. We want to hire local people to serve this community.”

Hartzog said the company will be holding a job fair again next week at the Brewton Career Center to search for new employees. Those interested may also apply online at www.applyatsonic.com.

Quality Drive-In is based in Greensboro, N.C. and owns 73 other restaurants from South Florida to Tuscaloosa including ones in Mobile, Pensacola, Fla., and Panama City, Fla., Hartzog said.

Perry Marshall, with VI Inc., commercial builders, was also on-site Wednesday to help get the new modular restaurant installed.

“Once the module is in place it will take us about three days to complete the building,” Marshall said. “After that, we will be building canopies and other parts of the restaurant.”

With just about a month until opening, Sonic Drive-In will be located on Douglas Avenue between Walgreen’s and Main Street Urgent Care.
