It took more than a few pots of flowers for Brewton to be named a winner in the America In Bloom event held in Missouri last week.
Brewton Mayor Yank Lovelace made a presentation Monday afternoon that included congratulations to those responsible for the city being named a winner in the annual judging by America In Bloom officials.
“I am proud to announce we took top honors for our population category (5,000-11,000),” Lovelace said. “Even when that changed to include cities more than twice our size. We have always punched about our weight class.”
America in Bloom judges spent two days in Brewton in June 2022 and the long-awaited results were revealed in St. Louis, Mo. at the group’s annual gathering.
“I want to thank the hard-working men and women in every city department who dedicate themselves to improving our city, the way it looks and the way our beautiful city reflects how we celebrate this community year round,” Lovelace said. “I would also like to thank the citizens who participate in the long-range plan as well as the many residents who volunteer throughout the year. Craig Jerkins, thank you and your team for all you do.”
Jerkins is the Public Works director for the city and leads a team of workers who tirelessly work to keep the city beautiful for the citizens and visitors of Brewton.
