Charitable work comes in many forms and on Saturday, those forms will be witches and zombies.
In their third annual event, the Witches of Brewton are set to take up their brooms (bicycles, golf carts) and ride through the streets of Brewton beginning at 3 p.m.
The Escambia County Habitat for Humanity will be hosting a Zombie Walk set for 5 p.m. at Dogwood Hills Park.
Meredith Buck, one of the original organizers of the group, said registration can be completed prior to the beginning of the ride for those not pre-registered.
Registration will be on the campus of T.R. Miller High School, which is the beginning point for the ride, prior to flight at 3 p.m. The ride will leave the school campus and travel along North Street to Belleville Avenue. The ride will end at Market Park at the mural in downtown Brewton.
The cost to register is $15 per Bike; $30 per cart plus $15 for each Passenger. Drivers of carts must be 19 with all participants at least 14 years old. Younger participants may be include with adults in cars taking the ride.
Payment for registration can be made through venmo @WOBFLY, mail Witches of Brewton P.O. Box 867, Brewton, AL, 36426, or you may pay at check-in day of event.
The Witches will gather downtown for the Witches Dance to conclude their fund raising ride.
The 2022 Witches Ride will be “Riding for Darby Black” who was injured in an automobile accident earlier this year requiring the use of special equipment and special accommodations to his home. Black’s mother, Amy, was among the first “witches” to ride for charity in the community.
Shae Hines, executive director of ECHFH, said the event will help raise needed funds to support the organizations building and renovation projects for homeowners in need around the county.
The Zombie Walk will be held at Dogwood Hills Park with the walk portion of the event set to begin at 5 p.m.
Other activities, including a trunk-or-treat and costume contest will begin at 4 p.m. Vendors will be on hand for the event as well to provide some pre-holiday shopping opportunities. Pig Daddy’s will also be on hand with food and drinks for the event.
To register for the Zombie Walk or to inquire about vendor space, contact the Escambia County Habitat for Humanity at 867-0095 or stop by and see them at the Habitat Restore on Douglas Avenue. Registration may also be completed on the day of the event at Dogwood Hills Park.
