With Christmas cheer already showing in our community, the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce will be kicking the season into high gear Friday with the annual Christmas Parade.
Judy Crane, executive director for the Chamber, said the parade is one of the most anticipated events of the season and this year’s parade should not disappoint.
“We have about 65 units set for the parade this Friday,” Crane said. “We are expecting a big crowd for the annual parade this year.”
Crane said those who are participating in the parade may begin lining up along Shoffner Street in East Brewton beginning at 4:30 p.m.
“The entries should go down Snowden Street and turn onto Shoffner Street,” Crane said. “Each unit will line up as they arrive this year.”
Crane said the parade will begin with a start at 6 p.m. at the intersection of Shoffner Street and Forrest Avenue in East Brewton.
The route will be the same as in years past traveling down Forrest Avenue across Murder Creek into Brewton. The parade will continue along Mildred Street and make a turn onto St. Jospeh Avenue. Units will turn onto Belleville Avenue at Market park and will disband around the Escambia County Courthouse on Belleville Avenue.
“We ask everyone to use safety precautions when picking up candy thrown from the floats this year,” Crane said. “Please, be aware of your surroundings — as always, safety first.”
There will be other activities in the city before, during and after the annual parade.
Market Park will be filled with vendors offering some great shopping opportunities for the holidays.
In the cities parks, activities will be going on as well including Sugarplum Park (downtown city park) featuring a snow machine from 5 to 7 p.m. along with the animated Christmas tree show from 5 to 10 p.m. At CeleBrewton Station (Jennings Park) you’ll find train rides from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and Brewville (Dogwood Hills Park) will have holiday homes open until 7 p.m.
