Santa wasn’t only greeted by snow and sparkling lights, he was greeted by thousands of parade-goers for what has been called “one of the best parades” ever seen in the Brewton-East Brewton area.
Friday night’s parade was filled with plenty of floats, marching groups and antique cars along with a few other vehicles thrown into the mix.
Organized annually by the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, this year’s event rolled through the community with a record 80 units.
Judy Crane, executive director of the organizing group, said the participation this year was nothing short of amazing.
“Everyone that worked to have an entry in the parade this year just hit it out of the park,” Crane said. “Everyone just did an awesome job. We didn’t have any problems with the parade. Everyone followed the rules and it was just a great event.”
Floats taking top honors in the judging this year included Frontier Technologies in first place with their Polar Express entry; Brewton Apostolic Church in second place and the Brewton Public Library taking third place honors.
Debi Pugh, Chamber secretary said the attendance for the parade was higher than in years past.
“I know that we had a lot of people out for the parade although it’s hard to estimate how many,” Pugh said. “I had people calling from Pensacola (Fla.) asking about the parade. We must have had people from all around our area come to Brewton for the parade. I’ve never seen so many people before for a parade.”
The parade was the final event to be hosted and organized by the Chamber of Commerce for the holiday season of 2022.
