Earth Day events planned Saturday

Both city and county officials are doing their pare to make sure participation is easy for residents as Earth Day Activities are planned for Saturday, April 22.
The Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with the City of Brewton and East Brewton, to let residents know of opportunities to get rid of trash and debris as well as recycling when possible.
The Jay Road Landfill will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to allow residents to dispose of trash only at no charge for the day. Old appliances may be disposed of as well. No household garbage will be accepted.
The City of East Brewton will have trash trucks available for East Brewton residents. Those residents should call 867-7998 to arrange for pick-up of trash items.
For old automobile batteries, drop off will be available at Auto Zone and O’Reilly Auto Parts, both located on Douglas Avenue. These locations will also be accepting automobile oil disposal of up to five gallons.
Television and computer components can be disposed of at the Public Works Department located at 603 St. Nicholas Avenue for residents only.
For those with old tires to get rid of, drop off will be available at the Public Works Department with a limit of four tires per household.
For residents outside the city limits of Brewton and East Brewton, Escambia County Commission officials have made arrangements to assist in Earth Day clean up as well.

County Administrator Tony Sanks said dumpters will also be made available for county residents at the following locations:
13533 Hwy. 29 in the Boykin community; 3251 Pea Ridge Road in the Brewton area; and 351 Jack Springs Road in Atmore.
