Lena ‘Marvis’ Bell Simmons
East Brewton
Mrs. Lena “Marvis” Bell Simmons, 89, of Roosevelt Street in East Brewton, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025 in a Century, Fla., nursing facility after a brief illness.
She was born in Falco, was a long time resident of Tampa, Fla., and a former resident of Frisco City before moving to the Brewton/East Brewton area in 1965. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years at various businesses. Mrs. Marvis lovingly called “Grannymaw” by her family and many others was a faithful Christian throughout her full life. In 1969 after moving to East Brewton, she chose the First Baptist Church of East Brewton as her place to worship, serve, and raise her young family. She loved gospel four-part harmony and was blessed with a unique Alto voice and sang in several groups in the area. She loved her ever growing family, her “Seekers” Sunday school class, Golden Agers senior group, and enjoyed many years of clogging, square dancing and camping with her husband, Jim.
Special recognition and gratitude extended to Century Center for Rehabilitation and Healing nursing staff and caregivers for their dedication and compassionate care.
She is survived by two sons, Rufus Lemond (Cyndee) Simmons of Brewton and Ludon (Martha) Simmons of East Brewton; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Mattie Money Bell; her husband of 56 years, James Lemond Simmons; two daughters, Shaun Simmons Crutchfield and Shirley Simmons Jerkins; and two siblings, Lewis Beasley and Mazell Bell Taylor.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of East Brewton with Bro. Lee Jernigan and Bro. Macon Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Crawford Cemetery in East Brewton, Alabama.
Pallbearers will be Neil Jerkins, Brad Jerkins, Jim Simmons, Heath Crutchfield, Shane Jerkins, and Marcus Simmons.

William Leroy ‘Chip’ Nall
East Brewton
Mr. William “Chip” Leroy Nall, Jr., 64, of Haigler Drive in East Brewton, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025 in Pensacola, Fla., after a brief illness.
He was a native of San Deigo, Cal., and a long time resident of East Brewton. Mr. Nall was of the Christian faith, a 1979 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, and was a retired truck driver from Easterling Brothers with 40 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, Nascar, traveling, and gardening.
He is survived by a son, Jason Nall of Pace, Fla.; his wife, Cindy Nall of Pace, Fla.; three brothers, Scott Nall of Brewton, Patrick (Jim Mahen) Nall of Pensacola, Fla., and Conrad (Lisa) Nall Meridianville; two nieces, Sara (Chad) Lisenby and Amber Fay; two nephews, James (Jackie) Nall and Bryan Garcia; an aunt, Burnie Ray Lassiter Kelly; great-nieces and great-nephews, Barrett Lisenby, Coen Nall, Hendrix Nall, Caralee Garcia, Jamision Fay, and Willow Fay; and his best friend, John Easterling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.L. Nall, Sr. and Sara Nell Lasitier Nall; a sister, Angela Nall Garcia; and a nephew, Christopher Nall.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 6 to 8 p.m.. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 31, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in Travis Cemetery in Brewton.

Charles Junior ‘Shorty’ James
Brewton
Mr. Charles Junior “Shorty” James, 83, of Brewton, passed away Thursday morning, January 16, 2025.
He was a native and life long resident of Brewton. Mr. James was a member of the Brewton Church of Christ, a 1959 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, and a retired pipe fitter from the construction industry. He enjoyed his family, church, and traveling.
He is survived by his children, Tammy (Sammy) Nelson of Brewton, Teresa (Allen) Franklin of Brewton; brothers, Leonard (Annette) James of Camden, Tommy (Cindy) James of Slapout; sister, Carolyn James of Brewton; grandchildren, Heather Sims (Doug), Brandon Nelson, Whittney Overby (Cody), Hunter Franklin, Meagan White (Cade), Austin James (Kirsten); and great-grandchildren, Madison Nelson, Gracie Sims, Conner Nelson, Gavin Nelson, Randy Overby, Madeline Overby, DJ Sims, Brayden James, TY Sims, Bentley James, and Charlie Overby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Cora Lee James; his wife of 60 years, Laura E. James; a son, Charles T. James and a brother, Wayne James.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 27, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Steve Parker and the Rev. Billy Ray Singleton officiating. Interment followed in Weaver Cemetery in Brewton, Alabama.

Ola May Colvin Bounds
Brewton
Mrs. Ola May Colvin Bounds, 89, of Plum Street in Brewton, passed away Friday, January 17, 2025 in Tuscaloosa after a brief illness.
She was a native and long time resident of Louisiana, and a former resident of Opp, before moving Brewton. Mrs. Bounds was a member of the Catawba Springs Baptist Church, graduated from high school in Louisiana, and was a homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter, Lynn Bounds of Brewton; two sons, Chuck (Martha Jo) Bounds of Youngsville, N.C. and John (Gail) Bounds of Coker; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by her parents, Jewel Emmett and Gladys Lloyd Colvin; and her husband, Bert Bounds.
Funeral serves were held Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Catawba Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Edwards officiating. Interment followed in Catawba Springs Cemetery in Brewton.
