Brewton Police are continuing their search for a suspect in connection to the shooting death of a local man last Wednesday morning.
According to Brewton Police Chief Matt Jordan, the suspect in the case fired multiple shots that fatally wounded the victim.
“There was one victim of gun shots that resulted in their death,” Jordan said. “The incident occurred in the area of Dacus Street at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 12).”
Although Jordan did not release the name of the victim or any suspects in the case, he did say there were no other injuries in the incident.
“There will be no stone unturned and no tree unshook as we investigate this case,” Jordan said. “We are going to do everything in our power to bring this case to a close.”
Jordan said there are several other agencies working along side Brewton Police in the investigation.
“We are the lead in this investigation,” Jordan said. “We will work this case from start to finish using all of our resources.”
With homicide being a rare incident in the Brewton area, Jordan said the community is “shaken” from the crime.
“Unfortunately, when things of this nature happen, rumors begin to circulate through the community,” Jordan said. “This has shaken the community. Anytime a crime occurs, we do everything in our power to work the case to conclusion.”
Jordan said the investigation is ongoing and declined to release any additional information on the victim, possible suspects or a motive in the case.
“I don’t feel comfortable releasing the name of the victim at this point in our investigation,” Jordan said.
Unpublished reports indicate the victim was transported to D.W. McMillan Hospital following the incident, however, lifesaving measures taken were unsuccessful.
Brewton Police investigators and officers will continue to investigate all leads revealed through their process. Details will be released when possible.
