Funding to secure the Angel of Hope Children’s Memorial Garden statue is in place for the project of the Meadorwood Garden Club.
Becky Lambert, president of the sponsoring group, said the funding provided by the City of Brewton will move the project forward.
“We are excited and grateful for the city’s involvement in this project,” Lambert said. “This additional funding from the city now makes it possible for us to actually place the order for the statue.”
The placement of the statue is only the first phase of the project, Lambert said.
“We need to get the base for the statue in place before the statue arrives,” Lambert said. “We first, of course, need to break ground on the site.”
Lambert said the creation of the garden will continue in phases including the placement of memorial and sponsorship pavers.
“We want to create a beautiful place to serve as a memorial for children of our area that have died. Pavers will be put into place during the next phase of the project and, of course, landscaping will be put into place to add privacy and beauty to the garden.”
The Brewton location will be a place for prayer, meditation and remembrance, Lambert said.
“There are a lot of people in our area who have lost children,” Lambert said. “This will be a place for people to honor those who have lost. It will be an on-going memorial.”
Although funding for the statue is in place, additional funding for the next phases of the garden project will be needed.
