Rickel DeWayne Samuel
Brewton

Rickel DeWayne Samuel, affectionately known as “Rick” and/or “Ricky” was born on February 4, 1975 to Minnie Pearl Samuel and Monarch Knight in Brewton.
His earthly life ended on the morning of February 12, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Rickem Dewon Samuel.
Rickel attended the Brewton School System and was a 1993 graduate of T.R. Miller High School. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Marines. He served proudly as a Marine doing what he loved — being an automotive mechanic. At the time of his discharge he held the rank of Lance Corporal (LCpl). Among other medals, he received the Good Conduct Medal.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Canisha M. Samuel; his children, Taylor Stewart, JaKaila Samuel, Railee Samuel, Rickel Samuel III, Joy Samuel, Shakeria White, Christopher Samuel, Brianna Samuel, Karen Samuel, Diah Samuel, Rickel “JR” Samuel II, Paris Lyons and Cody Hall; his siblings, Javasa (Cecil) Stallworth, Felisha (Norris) Parham, Curtis (Sheila) Wiley, Shelton (Lisa) Williams, Angela (Carl) Franklin, and Iris Knight; mother-in-law, Clara White; sister-in-law, Aftan Stewart; a special niece that he loved as a daughter, London Cottman; a friend that he loved like a brother, Sampson (Stacy) Jones; a devoted life-long friend, Johnny (Yolanda) Brown, a devoted friend, Courtney Long and a host of loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
Memorial service for Mr. Rickel Dewayne Samuel was held Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Kingdom Ministry Center in Brewton with Bishop Herman Bradley, Pastor with Pastor Russell Clausell serving as Eulogist.
Professional service and final arrangements were entrusted to Presley-Fluker Funeral Directors, Inc.

Evelyn Voncile Taylor Jackson
Brewton

Evelyn Voncile Taylor Jackson, the beloved only child of Tennie Bradley and Elliott Taylor, was born in the Johnsonville Community of Conecuh County on September 14, 1931. She peacefully transitioned to her eternal rest on February 13, 2025 when God called her home.
Evelyn moved from Johnsonville to Brewton at an early age, where she met and married her soulmate, William Jackson. Together, they shared a remarkable 78 years of love and companionship.
A devoted member of Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Evelyn retired from D.W. McMillian Hospital after 26 years of dedicated service.
Evelyn’s love for her family knew no bounds. She is survived by her husband, William and their six children: Annie Muriel Jackson-Benjamin, Franksean Jackson-Dickens, Tanual Kay Jackson-Hall, Kenya Udjuna Jackson-Calloway, Monick Danyala Jackson-Lee, William Devia Jackson.
She is also survived by her sons-in-law, Willie Benjamin, Jeffrey Dickens,, Michael Hall, Gene Calloway and Frederick Lee and a daughter-in-law, Shannon Jackson.
Evelyn is further survived by her sisters-in-law: Arleane Jackson Lovelace of Omaha, Nebraska, Mattie Jackson Lockman and Mary Jackson of Brewton, Alabama; a brother-in-law, Leo Jackson of Brewton, Alabama. Evelyn was also preceded in death by her Popa Lem Bradley; aunts: Janie Avant, Romaine Benjamin, Mattie Maddox, and Luverne Murphy; her uncles: Gilbert Bradley, Charlie Bradley, Lem Bradley and Matthew Bradley, along with mother and father-in-law, Ethel and Thomas Jackson; brothers-in-law, Wynton Jackson and Sammy Jackson; sisters-in-law. Lillian Jackson Hines and Anna Ruth Jackson Drakeford.
Her legacy includes 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply.
Evelyn’s quick wit and sense of humor were unmatched. She was direct and her family always knew exactly where they stood with her, whether through her words or the expressions on her face. That was just part of her unique charm.
Evelyn, William’s loving wife, the family’s dear mother and grandmother, will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her. Her legacy will be passed on to future generations.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jackson were held, Monday, February 24, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church with its Pastor, Marius J. Beckham Sr., officiating. Interment immediately followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery.
