Carl was born on July 20, 1941, in Shawanee, Tenn., to Thomas Ross Brittain and Ollie Kathryn Lynch. After graduating high school in 1959 and attending college, Carl moved to Brewton in 1963 to join his brother who had previously moved here. Carl was known for his dedication to his family. In particular, he was devoted to his wife, Ann, as she has battled Alzheimer’s disease for the past several years. He cared for her with a love and devotion that exemplified his character. Carl remained steadfast in his role as her caregiver, never once hesitating to put her needs before his own. His love for her was deep and unconditional. and their marriage was a beautiful example of what it means to cherish, honor, and serve one another.
Carl’s grandchildren were the light of his life. They brought him endless happiness, and he enjoyed every moment with them, often saying that they were his greatest joy. “Paps”, as they lovingly called him, was present at every activity they participated in and was always their biggest supporter and encourager. His proudest role was that of grandfather, and he often spoke about his love for each of them and the joy they brought to his life. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his grandchildren forever.
Above all, Carl was a man of faith. He loved the Lord with all his heart and relied on His guidance throughout his life. As a longtime member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, he faithfully served the Lord in numerous ways, including serving as eacon, singing in the choir and volunteering with VBS. His faith in God was his guiding force, and he relied on it every day, especially through the challenges he faced in his final years.
