A downed power line is the suspected culprit that began a raging blaze in East Brewton Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters from multiple agencies were busy Tuesday afternoon after a pair of brush fires burned out of control in East Brewton and in Appleton.

Just before 2 p.m., East Brewton Fire Department called for backup from the Brewton Fire Department to help fight the blaze at the end of Williamson Street in East Brewton. The fire, initially covering about two acres, quickly spread mainly because of high winds Tuesday afternoon.
