Brewton Police Chief Matt Jordan said there have been no major updates in their investigation into the murder of a Brewton man, Rickel “Ricky” Dewayne Samuel, on Feb. 12, but the investigation is continuing.
Jordan outlined the known details of the incident and issued a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the murder.
“On the morning of February 12 , 2025, Brewton Police Dispatch received a call from DW McMillan Hospital staff advising that a male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds had been transported by private vehicle to the Emergency Room,” Jordan said. “Multiple officers responded to DW McMillan Hospital and the scene of the shooting, a residence located on Dacus Street in Brewton.
“While at the scene of the shooting, Investigators learned that the victim, Rickel Dewayne Samuel, had been pronounced dead. Investigators are now following multiple leads generated from information learned throughout the investigation thus far. Numerous interviews and search warrants have been conducted by Brewton Police Investigators, and multiple agencies are aiding in the investigation such as the US Marshals Service, FBI, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Atmore Police Department, Escambia County District Attorney’s Office and the Alabama Department of Corrections.
“The Brewton Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in providing any information relating to this case. Anyone who provides information to our department will remain anonymous. A reward of $5,000 is being offered to anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for the murder of Rickel Samuel.

Samuel’s funeral was held Feb. 22 in Brewton.
