Brewton Police investigators are continuing thier work in uncovering the cause of an incident that left three people, including two children, injured on Monday afternoon.
According to a report by BPD Sgt. Andrew Casey, the incident occurred just after 4 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of Mildred and Green Streets in downtown Brewton.
“Upon arriving, it was discovered that two of the victims were small children, ages 2 and 4,” Casey said in the report. “The father of the children, an adult male, was the third pedestrian involved. During the initial investigation, officers determined that the adult male was pushing a stroller carrying the two-year-old south on Mildred Street and crossing the Green Street intersection just as a semi-truck carrying an unloaded log trailer was turning south on Mildred Street from Green Street. The two children and the adult male were struck by the front passenger side of the semi-truck as it was making the left turn onto Mildred Street.”
Casey said the nature of the injuries coupled with the age of the children involved prompted the department to dispatch a Traffic Homicide Investigator to the scene.
“This will ensure a detailed investigation would be completed,” Casey said. “At this time (as of Tuesday morning), all three victims are hospitalized and in stable condition. The accident investigation is ongoing and may take several months to complete while awaiting results from forensic analysis reports.”
