Let the clean up begin.
The City of Brewton, City of East Brewton and the Escambia County Commission are all gearing up and preparing for the annual Earth Day Clean-Up with some working beginning on April 21.
Earth Day, set for April 26, will feature a wide array of opportunities for area residents to clean up their communities.
On Monday, Escambia County Engineer Parker Ross said dumpsters will be in place by Monday, April 21 to allow clean up across the county to begin.
Dumpsters will be in place at the usual places throughout the county.
“We were a little overwhelmed last year at how quickly the dumpsters filled up,” Ross said. “We have everyone in the loop this year and plan to have those dumpsters emptied and/or replaced as they are filled throughout the week leading up to Earth Day.”
The Commission has also authorized the disposal of tires, electronics, batteries, etc., to be accepted on April 26 only at the county workshops in Boykin, Brewton (on Pea Ridge Road), Flomaton Fire Department and the Atmore Shop on Jack Springs Road. These sites will be available for disposal for Escambia County residents only.
In Brewton and East Brewton, officials there are also gearing up to help the Earth Day clean up run smoothly.
On Saturday, April 26, 2025, the Jay Road Landfill will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. for disposals at no charge to area residents. Items allowed include electronics, televisions, computer components and trash only. No household garbage, tires or chemicals will be allowed at the site.
An additional dumpster to dispose of electronics only will be set up behind the Fire Department on St. Nicolas Avenue.
The City of East Brewton will have a trash truck available for East Brewton residents. Call 867-7998 for pick up (No tires will be accepted).
For those needing to dispose of automobile batteries or oil in Brewton, those items will be accepted at Auto Zone and O’Reilly Auto Parts, both located on Douglas Avenue.
Old Appliances/Electronics may be disposed of at Jay Road Landfill or at an additional dumpster behind the Brewton Fire Department on St. Nicholas Avenue.
