Twenty years ago, Jermaine Stallworth started working for the City of Brewton Parks and Recreation Department helping to maintain city public spaces. He worked his way up to a supervisory spot, now helping to manage seven other employees.
“We keep the city looking good,” he said, “I enjoy being outside and it’s good to look around on Friday and see the difference you made.”
Stallworth said his pet peeve is litter on the city streets, with workers finding everything from fast food discards to lottery tickets and occasionally cash. “It’s frustrating to see people trashing the city,” he said. “I will never understand it.”
In his spare time, the Hillcrest High graduate enjoys coaching youth sports —football, baseball and basketball. He also enjoys fishing.
Stallworth and his wife Demonica have two children and a granddaughter.
“My daughter sees now the things I tried to teach her growing up,” Stallworth said. “And that granddaughter has me wrapped around her finger.”
Department Head Craig Jerkins described Stallworth as a hardworking team member who is always willing to do whatever it takes to make projects successful and better serve the public.
